Join us as we dive into the world of our talented team members and share the personalities behind the Roomex brand. Barry Marketing Communications Manager 1) Tell us about your role at Roomex – what does a typical day look like for you? Within Roomex my primary focus is on how we best present our extensive product offerings to our loyal customers, ensuring our account management team have everything they need for their respective clients, and supporting our customer onboarding teams. No two days are ever truly the same, but a huge portion of my time on the creation and rollout of email campaigns, marketing collateral, and framing our messaging to ensure the customer is at the heart of everything we do. 2) How do you think Roomex is changing the game in travel management? The ease-of-us is a real difference maker in my opinion. We’re all a bit time-poor these days, so being able to cut out having to browse multiple websites or spend hours ringing around hotels in order to secure the best rate is crucial. 3) What are some key challenges you face in your role, and how do you overcome them? Balancing business priorities and the needs of our customers – which at varying points may not always align 100%. For example, the business might have a desire to prioritise one product at a specific time and might feel there’s no harm in having multiple mass-communications promoting the product running in tandem, but the concern with these campaigns is always that you risk annoying people, crowding their inboxes, and worst-case scenario that they begin to stop even reading your emails. It’s important tohave a balance here between what the business needs and the customers’ expectation – that we do our job quietly without bombarding them – and often I have to be the one to argue for a “less is more” approach. 4) Can you share a memorable or funny story about your time at Roomex? Those who work most closely with me will know of my elite level skills when it comes to pulling an Irish goodbye. Unfortunately, as a result, I’m usually half-way home when the funny stories happen. I will give a shout-out to the fact that my first face-to-face meeting with an unnamed member of our Senior Management Team happened while he was dressed as a nun at a Roomex Christmas party. 5) If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why? I’ll give two answers here, as Roomex primarily deals with domestic travel within the UK and Ireland, the first option would be Edinburgh – it’s a city I’m had the pleasure of visiting a few times now and the scenery is breathtaking Further afield, I would say Hawaii – as an Irish man I’d love to see this thing called the sun once in my lifetime. 6) What makes Roomex a unique place to work compared to other companies? Hands down, the people are the business’ greatest asset. Everyone is willing to help wherever needed so that we can provide the best service possible to our customers. 7) Three words your colleagues would use to describe you? Handsome, charming… deluded. 8) If you could give recognition to a colleague for going the extra mile, who would it be and why? I work most closely with our Account Management team and Roomex as a business is very fortunate to have such a dedicated group of people who work incredibly hard to best serve our customer base and to demonstrate how Roomex best supports them. It would be impossible for me to pick between them, so I’m just going to shout out that entire team. 9) Who do you nominate for the next as part of our Meet The Team series? Having given them a carrot in the previous question, it’s now time for one of our account managers to take a little punishment! Let’s give Alex Norman an opportunity to talk about her shiny new role within the team.
