Roomex partners with JUST ONE Tree to support global reforestation

Roomex partners with JUST ONE Tree to support global reforestation

A new step in our sustainability journey

We’re delighted to announce a new partnership at Roomex.

We’ve joined forces with JUST ONE Tree, a non-profit working to remove CO₂ from the atmosphere and reverse biodiversity loss through global reforestation.

The partnership gives Roomex another practical way to support environmental action, alongside the work we’re already doing to help businesses understand and manage the carbon impact of workforce travel.

From restoring forests and regenerating oceans to supporting communities and bringing environmental education into classrooms, JUST ONE Tree takes a broad approach to ecosystem restoration. It’s an approach we’re incredibly pleased to support – and we’ll have plenty more to share about the impact of our partnership soon.

A new step in our sustainability journey

JUST ONE Tree plants trees in areas severely affected by deforestation, helping to remove CO₂ from the atmosphere while restoring habitats and biodiversity.

The organisation supports reforestation projects around the world and works with local communities to source, plant and care for native tree species. Its partners are carefully selected based on criteria including their methodology, existing infrastructure, impact on communities and tree survival rates.

The work also creates opportunities for the people living in the areas where restoration takes place. Local communities receive training and employment, helping to provide agricultural education and sustainable incomes while giving those communities a direct role in protecting the forests around them.

JUST ONE Tree currently supports projects across countries including Kenya, Madagascar, Indonesia, Brazil, Nepal, Haiti, Mozambique, Mexico, Zambia, Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador and Chile, alongside work in the Andes and mangrove environments.

It is also a partner in the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration.

By supporting JUST ONE Tree’s diverse projects around the world, Roomex is contributing to work that touches all 17 of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Why we chose JUST ONE Tree

We wanted to support an organisation that looks at the wider impact of environmental restoration.

Trees are an important part of that work. Forests absorb carbon dioxide, provide habitats for wildlife, help stabilise soil and filter water. Restoring them can also support the people and communities who live alongside them.

JUST ONE Tree’s approach brings those different areas together.

The organisation works with communities committed to restoring their forests, providing the funding needed for reforestation partners to hire and train local people. Native species are planted and cared for from seed through to maturity, helping to give new forests the best possible chance of becoming established.

That means the impact can continue long after the initial tree has been planted.

It’s one of the reasons the organisation’s principle of putting the right trees in the right place resonated with us. The focus is on building healthy forests and ecosystems that are appropriate for their environment and can be supported over the long term.

Restoration reaches the oceans too

JUST ONE Tree’s work works beneath the surface.

Alongside global reforestation, the organisation supports the regeneration of ocean ecosystems, including kelp restoration projects.

Kelp and mangrove forests provide important habitats for marine life and can play a valuable role in restoring marine biodiversity. Supporting their regeneration means looking at environmental restoration across connected ecosystems rather than treating forests, coastlines and oceans separately.

JUST ONE Tree sums up its approach simply: grow forests, regenerate oceans and bring climate education to current and future generations.

That final part is important too.

Through its work with schools, JUST ONE Tree helps bring environmental education into classrooms and encourages younger generations to understand why protecting and restoring the planet matters.

Connecting the partnership with more sustainable workforce travel

For Roomex, this partnership also sits alongside our wider sustainability work.

Businesses with travelling workforces can generate significant volumes of travel activity every year. Construction teams may move between projects. Engineers can spend weeks working away from home. Field teams may require accommodation across multiple locations at the same time.

Every hotel stay and journey contributes to the wider environmental footprint of that activity.

Understanding that impact starts with having reliable data.

Roomex Carbon Reporting helps businesses build a clearer picture of the emissions generated by accommodation booked through our platform. Automated monthly reporting links directly to booking data, reducing the manual work involved in collecting and calculating information across hundreds or thousands of stays.

For procurement, finance and ESG teams, that creates a more robust data trail for sustainability reporting, internal targets, client requirements and wider environmental initiatives.

It also gives businesses something practical to act on.

Better visibility can help teams identify patterns in workforce travel, understand where emissions are being generated and make more informed decisions about future travel and accommodation policies.

Making sustainability part of the travel conversation

Workforce travel involves plenty of competing priorities.

Teams need suitable accommodation close to the job. Travellers need somewhere comfortable and practical to stay. Finance needs control over costs. Procurement needs visibility across suppliers and spend. Increasingly, ESG and sustainability teams also need reliable information about the environmental impact of that activity.

Roomex brings those different parts of workforce travel together.

Businesses can access over two million hotels and self-catering properties, book rail through the same travel programme, create custom travel policies and approval processes, manage expenses and analyse travel activity through Roomex Insights Pro.

Carbon Reporting adds environmental visibility to that picture.

Instead of sustainability information sitting separately from day-to-day travel activity, businesses can use data generated through their bookings to understand their accommodation emissions and support ongoing reporting.

Our partnership with JUST ONE Tree complements that work by allowing Roomex to support environmental restoration directly too.

What comes next

Joining JUST ONE Tree marks the beginning of an ongoing partnership, and we’re looking forward to seeing what we can achieve together.

We’ll be sharing updates as that partnership develops, including the tangible impact Roomex’s support is already having through JUST ONE Tree’s projects around the world.

And we already have some exciting news to share.

Stay tuned – we’ll be revealing the first impact of our JUST ONE Tree partnership very soon.
